Pavegen´s tiled flooring harnesses the energy of pedestrian footsteps. Small electromagnets underneath each tile induce a current with the tiny movement of the tile. In some areas, these tiles are used to power nearby light sources. Each step on the tiles produce a miniscule amount of energy, but in high trafficked areas the high price of production may be offset. The company aims to reduce production costs and merchandize the product in order to justify the expenses in manufacturing.
